Arrive in Whitehorse. Pick up your rental car and check into your hotel.

Day 2       Whitehorse - Dawson City (532km)
Set off from Whitehorse and journey through Carmacks, Pelly Crossing and Fort Selkirk. At Five Finger Rapids, a historic site from the gold rush era, descend the staircase to a large viewing platform overlooking the rapids. Watch for wildlife including moose, black bear, elk, caribou, fox and raven along the route. Arrive in Dawson City and check into your hotel.

Day 3       Dawson City
Explore Dawson City at your leisure. Meet miners, dog mushers and other Klondike characters. The streets of this authentic frontier town are lined with wooden boardwalks, and the town is a lively place bursting with heritage sites and attractions. Take a walking tour with Parks Canada, explore the Dawson City Museum and in the evening try your hand at blackjack or take in a show at Diamond Tooth Gerties gambling hall.

Day 4       Dawson City - Tok (299km)
US Border crossing. Passport required.
Take the free ferry across the Yukon River to the Top of the World Highway, and enjoy expansive views before crossing into Alaska. Watch for gold rush relics along the way and stop in the remote town of Chicken, Alaska, where the abandoned Pedro Dredge hosts daily guided tours during the summer season. Continue to the Alaska Highway and to Tok for the night.

Note: Be prepared for long distances in between services, tight turns, and washboard conditions in the rain. Fuel is available in either Chicken or Tok. For the drive from Dawson City to Tok, allow a minimum of seven hours.

Day 5       Tok - Haines Junction (468km)

Canadian Border crossing. Passport required.
Watch for moose, grizzly bears and Dall sheep on your scenic drive down the Kluane Parkway. Stop at Tetlin Wildlife Refuge visitor centre, which provides information, displays and interpretive programs daily. As you approach Haines Junction, take in the towering St. Elias mountain range and surrounding beauty of Kluane National Park and Reserve.

Day 6       Haines Junction - Whitehorse (154km)

Spend the day in Haines Junction, the perfect base for excursions like glacier flightseeing, hiking, canoeing and river rafting. In the afternoon, depart for Whitehorse.

Day 7       Whitehorse
Spend the day exploring Whitehorse. If you wish, visit the MacBride Museum or the renowned Beringia Centre with interpretive exhibits on the prehistory and first people of the region. Enjoy a stroll along the Yukon River's edge and perhaps visit the S.S. Klondike National Historic Site or explore some of the art galleries showcasing the work of Yukon's talented artists.
