Itinerary

Day 1: San Jose Airport- San Jose
Upon arrival to Juan Santamaría International airport in San Jose, you will be met by a Swiss Travel representative, who will provide your full itinerary, recommendations, maps, contact information and assistance with your transportation. You will then transfer to your hotel in San Jose, approximately 20 minute drive away.

Accommodations: Presidente Hotel (1 night)

Day 2: San Jose – South Caribbean
(Breakfast)

Depart in the morning for Costa Rica’s southern Caribbean coast, to the small village of Puerto Viejo de Limón, renowned for its cultural allure, stunning white sand beaches, tropical vegetation and its proximity to national parks.
Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the nature, relax on the beach, swim in the warm Caribbean waters or visit the town of Puerto Viejo de Limón where you can buy souvenirs.

Accommodations: Cariblue Hotel (2 nights)

Day 3: South Caribbean (Breakfast & Lunch)
This morning, discover the wonders of Cahuita National Park. Do some snorkeling along the vibrant coral reef before walking through the rainforest to spot howler and white-faced monkeys, lizards, tropical birds and more.
For the afternoon, you can relax on the magnificent jungle beaches and its golden sand, or you can walk through the peaceful fishermen villages with its typical Afro-Caribbean architecture of small colorful wooden houses.
Don’t forget to try the great Caribbean cuisine and its exotic flavors and spices while the rhythms of their music complement this unforgettable experience.

Day 4: Puerto Viejo- Tortuguero National Park (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
During the morning the journey will continue to the Caño Blanco Dock, where the boats are waiting for you to transfer you to the Tortuguero National Park. A scenic two and half hour boat ride will take you through the canals sheltered in the jungle of the rainforest, and from the boat, you will be able to admire the unique flora and fauna of this region. Upon arrival, you will receive a short briefing of your hotel and the surrounding area, followed by lunch. In the afternoon you will visit the village of Tortuguero, where you will learn the lifestyle of local residents and the significant conservation efforts that some NGOs (non-governmental organizations) have developed to protect sea turtles that come to spawn each year along the 22 miles of protected coastline.

Day 5: Turtuguero National Park (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
Tortuguero is a great destination for ecotourism lovers. During this day and depending on the weather conditions, you can enjoy a guided hike through the jungle where you will learn how the different animals, insects and birds interact with forest plants, thus achieving a perfect balance of each species, or you can explore the secondary canals of this paradisiacal place, where you can see different species of mammals, birds and reptiles. Tortuguero offers a full contact with Mother Nature. Much of the National Park extends along its unspoiled beaches that serve as refuge for spawning of the sea turtles, this event occurs between the months of July to September.

Day 6: Turtuguero National Park- Arenal Volcano (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner)
At mid-morning the journey continues with a boat transfer back to the local dock. Upon arrival, ground transportation will be provided to the area of Guapiles, where lunch will be served.  Afterwards, continue on with a land transfer towards the northern lowlands, this route offers the experience to pass through different towns such as Puerto Viejo (Sarapiqui), San Miguel, Venecia and Aguas Zarcas. Also, along the way you will enjoy the beautiful scenery which includes amazing views of the mountains and one of the major sources of revenue in the area: the agriculture, so you will have the opportunity according with the season to observe the crops of pineapple, bananas and sugar cane.
Arrive to La Fortuna Village late afternoon where the mighty Arenal Volcano will welcome you with its impressive perfect conic shape. This volcano has been active since 1969 and it has become one of the world’s most active volcanoes and one of Costa Rica’s main highlights.
During the evening you will visit the world famous Tabacón Hot Springs. These natural hot springs features a hot river that flows through a series of pools. From cascading falls to tropical gardens, the hot springs are the result of rainwater heated by magma in the Earth’s interior. Once heated, the waters rise to surface, taking with them minerals found in the earth’s rocky crust; this way, waters become very benefic to your body because of its temperature that helps to relax muscles, clean pores and rejuvenate the skin. Tabacón is a very unique location full of natural jewels that definitely you cannot miss staying at Arenal Volcano area.

Day 7: Arenal Volcano (Breakfast)
This day is at your leisure to explore the area. We highly recommend the visit to Arenal Volcano National Park (extra cost) that protects an active perfect cone volcano with constant moderate explosions accompanied by roar, gases and ash emissions that raise high in the air. The attraction of this volcano has helped to develop the area as a prime destination in the country; from being a small town of cattle and agricultural farms, it has become one of the most tourist developed areas with hotels, tour attractions, adventure activities, hot springs and water sports.
Additionally, to the volcano, other attractions are: Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge, Venado Caves, La Fortuna Waterfall, and many activities such as river floating, nature walks, hot springs, canopy, hanging bridges, Pure Trek Canyoning, rafting, hiking and horseback riding.

Day 8: Arenal Volcano- Tamarindo Beach (Breakfast)
Morning, transfer from Arenal Volcano to the North Pacific Coast.   The first part of the transfer is adorned with panoramic views of Arenal Lake until reach the Pan-American Highway where you will notice a change between the rain forest and the tropical dry forest that characterizes the entire Guanacaste Province.
Once in the coast, you will enjoy not only the stunning views but also the beautiful beaches with generous palm trees that rise up from the beaches and gives shade to sunbathers. For all of this, it easy to understand why Guanacaste is the perfect destination to enjoy nature and relaxation!

Day 9: Tamarindo Beach (Breakfast)
Day at leisure for you to enjoy the hotel grounds, the beach and even consider on taking an optional (extra cost) day tours in the area.
The region is known for its extensive nature reserves that house an incredible concentration of flora, fauna and natural beauty. Therefore, the are several reserves, natural attractions and many activities which can be done from the area at an extra cost, some suggestions are:   Rincon de la Vieja National Park, which holds an active volcano, thermal mud baths, and a variety of forests; or Palo Verde National Park, which is a bird-watchers and nature-lover’s paradise; there are also canopy tours, river rafting, horseback riding, forest hiking, fishing and much more for you to explore.

Day 10: Tamarindo Beach- Monteverde Cloud Forest (Breakfast)
Morning at leisure. For the afternoon depart from Tamarindo Beach to the Monteverde Cloud Forest.
The first part of the trip is adorned with the beautiful scenery of the tropical dry forest that characterizes the entire province of Guanacaste. Then, will start the driving ascending through the Tilarán Mountain Range. The final portion of your journey is on gravel roads, giving you more time to enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery.

Day 11: Monteverde Cloud Forest (Breakfast)
During the morning you will visit the Sky Walk - Hanging Bridges, which is one the most beautiful environmental friendly projects in Costa Rica. The tour takes place on a 600 acre reserve filled with lush vegetation and a variety of birds and animals.
During this guided naturalist walk, you will discover the cloud forest canopy from an unrivaled perspective, showing you the fascinating and colorful Tropical Rain Forest world. Also, the impressive outlooks of the Nicoya Gulf from the hanging bridges over the rainforest will be the perfect combination for an unforgettable experience.
This is a great opportunity to come closer to the nature and get another perspective of the beautiful region of the Monteverde Cloud Forest.
Afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the optional sights and activities in the area (Extra cost). Perhaps pay a visit to the nearby town of Santa Elena, with its beautiful orchid garden, frog pond, serpentariums, butterfly gardens and art galleries. You could take a tour of the local cheese factory, coffee or sugar cane plantation, or take advantage of such local activities as horseback riding, birdwatching and/or canopy/zip-line tours.

Day 12: Monteverde Cloud Forest- Manuel Antonio (Breakfast)
Today, you will be transferred to one of the most beautiful Central Pacific beaches, the area of Manuel Antonio, which is one of the icons of ecotourism in our country, offering enchanting white-sand beaches ideal for swimming, and tropical rainforest forest full of with wildlife, there you can watch for monkeys and iguanas. The immense variety of things to do and places to visit in one single day in the area will definitely add all the value to your experience in this blessed land in a lush tropical place.

Day 13: Manuel Antonio (Breakfast)
Day at leisure for you to enjoy the hotel grounds, the beach and even consider on taking an optional (extra cost) day tours in the area. No trip to Costa Rica's mid-Pacific region is complete without a visit to the Manual Antonio National Park; Perhaps is is so popular because of its expensive white sand beaches backed by an evergreen forest that grows right up to the high tide line.

Day 14: Manuel Antonio - San Jose (Breakfast)
Morning will be at your leisure to enjoy the sun. During the afternoon we have programmed the transfer back to San Jose where you will stay the last night in Costa Rica !

Day 15: San Jose - San Jose Airport
(Breakfast)
Your Costa Rican eco-adventure comes to an end today. You will be met at the hotel and transferred back to the airport for your return trip home.
