Itinerary

Day 1

Depart Canada

Depart on your overnight flight to Mumbai’s International Airport.

Day 2

Welcome to Mumbai

Upon arrival to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, you will be required to clear customs and immigration. Once cleared, proceed to the exit where a dedicated local representative will greet you with an Air Canada Vacations board with your name on it. They will greet you with a traditional Mouli welcome ceremony* before escorting you to your private transfer which will take you to your hotel to check in. The rest of the evening is at your leisure.

*The Mouli ritual is a traditional Hindu ceremony associated with the welcoming or honouring of guests. The term "Mouli" refers to a sacred thread or garland that is tied around the wrist or head during the ritual.

Day 3

Mumbai

After breakfast, your tour guide will take you to a half-day excursion to Elephanta Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site accessible only by a ferry ride from the Gateway of India. After lunch ($), your next adventure will take you on an exciting half-day city tour.

Afterwards your private transfer will take you back to your hotel. Spend the rest of the evening at your leisure.

    Network of rock-cut caves located on Elephanta Island in Mumbai Harbour, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that dates back to the 5th to 7th centuries and are renowned for their stunning rock-cut sculptures, primarily dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva.

  • Half-day City Tour

    In this fascinating adventure you will visit the Gate of India, Prince of Wales Museum, Mani bhavan, Marine Drive and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (formerly Victoria Terminus).

Day 4

Mumbai - Madurai

After breakfast and check-out, your private transfer will take you to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to catch your flight to the “Athens of the East”, Madurai!

Upon arrival at Madurai Airport, collect your luggage and proceed to the exit where a local representative will greet you with an Air Canada Vacations board with your name on it. They will escort you to your private transfer which will take you to your hotel to check in. The rest of the day is at your leisure.

Madurai

After breakfast, your tour guide will take you on a full-day city tour!

Later this evening you will experience the extraordinary “Going to bed Ceremony” at the Sree Meenakshi Temple. Afterwards, you will be transferred back to the hotel. The rest of the evening is at your leisure.

  • Going to Bed Ceremony at Sree Meenakshi Temple

    Also known as the Palli Arai Pooja or Palli Arai Ceremony, it is a unique and sacred nightly ritual. In this ceremony, the idols of Lord Shiva (in the form of Sundareshwarar) and Goddess Meenakshi are symbolically put to rest for the night.

    The ceremony begins with the idol of Lord Sundareshwarar being carried in a grand procession from his shrine to Goddess Meenakshi's shrine. Accompanied by music, chanting, and the blowing of conch shells, the procession passes through the temple corridors.

Day 6

Madurai - Thanjavur

After breakfast and checking out your private transfer will take you on a 3-hour drive* to your next stop, Thanjavur, known for its rich cultural heritage!

Upon arrival at your hotel, check in and prepare for an exciting afternoon adventure: a visit to the magnificent Brihadeeswarar Temple and the Royal Palace in Thanjavur.

    A UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Chola king Raja Raja Chola I in the 11th century and is one of the greatest examples of Dravidian architecture. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the temple is renowned for its massive Vimana (tower), which stands over 200 feet tall, making it one of the tallest temple towers in the world.

  • Royal Palace Thanjavur

    Historic palace complex that was originally constructed by the Nayak rulers in the 16th century and later expanded by the Marathas when they took over the region. The palace is a striking example of a blend of Dravidian and Maratha architecture.

    The complex houses several notable structures, including the Saraswathi Mahal Library, one of the oldest libraries in India with rare manuscripts, and the Art Gallery, which displays a rich collection of Chola bronze statues and other artifacts.

Day 7

Thanjavur – Darasuram – Gangaikondacholapuram – Puducherry

After a leisurely breakfast and late check-out, your private driver will take you on a 4.5 hour drive* towards “the French Riviera of the East,” Puducherry!

*Driving time is approximate and it may vary depending on road and traffic conditions.

En route, you’ll visit the Darasuram and Gangaikondacholapuram temples, before continuing your drive to your hotel in Puducherry.

Upon arrival at your hotel in Mahabalipuram, check in and get ready for this afternoon’s journey!

Later today, you’ll explore the stunning Shore Temple, followed by a visit to the vibrant cultural heritage center of Dakshinachitra.

Cochin

After breakfast, your tour guide will take you on a full-day city tour! Discover the vibrant blend of history and culture, where ancient traditions meet modern life.
