Day 2

Rome - Orvieto - Todi - Perugia Area (approx. 202 km)

Upon arrival, pick up your rental car, then head to the Umbria region. Stop in Orvieto, then continue to the medieval town of Todi. Head to your hotel in the Perugia area.

Optional Activities ($):
OUT & ABOUT: Stop in Orvieto, perched on a rock cliff and offering the most splendid of views. If you like, take a city tour ($), including the Gothic Duomo of Oriveto cathedral and a short visit to the Adriano pastry shop to sample Orvieto's typical cakes and desserts, including chocolates made with chillies and saffron. Continue to Todi, a splendid medieval town, where you can wander through the old monuments and craft shops.

Day 3

Perugia Area: Assisi (approx. 60 km)

Take the morning to explore the area before travelling to Assisi to discover this UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the birthplace of Saint Francis.

OUT & ABOUT: Perugia, perched on a hill, is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. Visit the Perugina chocolate museum, famous for its Baci Perugina chocolates, or stop at the historical Pasticceria Sandri pastry shop for a tasty treat. Assisi is known for its magnificent medieval architecture. Visit the the old city and the spectacular Basilica di San Francesco.

Day 4

Perugia Area - Siena - San Gimignano - Florence (approx. 211 km)

Head towards Tuscany along the Trasimeno Lake to stop in Siena. Then it's off to San Gimignano, and then continue on to Florence for the night.

Optional Activities ($):
OUT & ABOUT: Visit the beautiful town of Siena, surrounded by beautiful architecture, including the Museum delle Contrade. Siena is famous for the Palio horse race, in which each horse runs for a different contrade, or district. Sample delicious traditional desserts like the panforte at the Pasticceria Nannini, one of the most famous pastry shops in town. In San Gimignano, you can visit the famous towers and the San Gimignano 1300 museum: see storyboards, multimedia exhibits, street scenes and a ceramic recreation of the city as it was back in 1300. Take time to visit Gelateria Dondoli, home to a master gelato (ice cream) maker.

Day 6

Florence: Chianti Region (approx. 109 km)

Discover the wonderful Chianti region. Travel to Radda in Chianti, with its ancient defensive walls, then proceed to Greve in Chianti and stroll through the town centre. Return to Florence.

Chianti is home to rolling hills, incredible wine and lovely medieval towns. Radda in Chianti's ancient defensive walls encloses the town centre and its maze of streets. Greve in Chianti, another beautiful medieval town, boasts a charming town centre and a historical butcher shop, Falorni, which has been producing local specialties since 1729!

Florence: Pisa & Lucca (approx. 195 km)

Spend a day exploring two of the most picturesque towns in Tuscany: Pisa and Lucca.

OUT & ABOUT: Start in Pisa, renowned for its Leaning Tower, and stroll around the glorious Piazza dei Miracoli. Journey on to Lucca and discover this ancient town with still-intact Renaissance-era city walls, medieval churches and exquisite piazzas—including the well-known Anfiteatro Square. Wander around the city and stop to taste the local cake, buccellato, before making your way back to Florence.

Day 8

Florence - Arezzo - Rome (approx. 297 km)

Travel to Rome via Arezzo, an art lover's dream. Continue to Rome and explore the city at your own pace. Spend the night in Rome.

OUT & ABOUT: Stop in Arezzo, one of the wealthiest cities in Tuscany, due to its tradition in goldsmithery. Arezzo is an art lover's dream. Its handsome medieval square is one of the city's main attractions, featured in the Oscar-winning film Life is Beautiful. See the famous Church of San Francesco, with the incredible early Renaissance fresco cycle by Piero della Francesca depicting the Legend of the True Cross. Head uphill to Piazza Grande, then on to the Medicean fortress, the cathedral dedicated to San Donato, then back down to the Roman Amphitheatre and the Church of San Domenico with the wooden crucifix by Cimabue. Continue to Rome, the Eternal City. Take a stroll in the historic city centre, where you can admire the magnificent Piazza del Popolo, via del Babuino with its refined boutiques, the wonderful Piazza di Spagna, the famous Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and last but not least Piazza Navona.

    Deposit and Credit Card Information: American Express, Diners Club, Master Card (no debit or prepaid, Visa (no debit or prepaid): A deposit amount will be held on your credit card for the duration of the rental. Your deposit is a guarantee held in the event of damage/theft of the vehicle. It will be automatically released if there is no theft or damage during the rental period. Please note that this does not include the total excess liability. No other payment type will be accepted. A valid credit card in the name of the driver must be presented at the rental desk in order to pre-authorized/charge a deposit. The credit card must be embossed and a PIN number may be required. In the event that you fail to present a valid card or lack of funds on the credit card or the lead driver's name is not on the card the rental car agent may refuse to release the vehicle. No funds will be reimbursed.

    Voucher: A printed voucher must be produced upon arrival at the rental desk. Failure to do so means the agent can charge you the local rates.
