Discover Spain's incredible history with stunning fortresses, enjoy a full-bodied glass of wine in La Rioja, and explore the country's wonderful urban centres over 11 days.
If you love the freedom and adventure of the open road, then a Fly & Drive vacation is just what you need. Drive your way through the experience of discovering parts of Spain one kilometre at a time. The car rental and hotel stays are included in the package, along with a bunch of other travel essentials that will help make this trip easy, fun, and unforgettable.
Location:
Fly to Madrid.
Upon arrival in Madrid, take a private transfer to your hotel and check in. The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore Spain's capital city.
Start with a half-day panoramic sightseeing tour, then go on a guided skip the line visit of the Royal Palace of Madrid.
At 9:00 a.m., pick up your rental car in downtown Madrid. Our suggested route includes a stop in Avila to see its fortress and cathedral. Continue to Segovia. Stroll through the city and see the cathedral and Alcazar. Spend the night at your hotel in Segovia.
Drive to Valladolid and cross the Ribera del Duero wine region, with interesting vineyards and wineries along the way. Continue to Burgos, with its medieval architecture and famous French Gothic-style cathedral. Spend the night at your hotel in Burgos.
Head to another famous wine region, La Rioja, and stop for a walk in Logrono to sample mouth-watering tapas on Calle Laurel, a popular area filled with bars, restaurants and cafés. Make a stop at the medieval Laguardia village to visit a calado, a traditional wine cellar. Or, pay a visit to the famous Marqués de Riscal winery, with its amazing building designed by Frank Gehry. Continue to Bilbao for the night.
Spend the day discovering the city. Bilbao is packed with must-see spots, including the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum and the Ribera Market. Taste delicious pintxos at a local tavern. Drive to the nearby village of Guernica, the symbol of Basque Country, immortalized by Picasso in his famous painting. Spend the night in Bilbao.
Drive along the coastline to the cosmopolitan San Sebastian. Stop at Monte Igueldo for spectacular views over the bay. Just 20 km away, cross the border with France and drive a further 30 km to pay a visit to elegant Biarritz. If you like, sample delicious wine and oysters, or hit the waves with a surfing lesson. Return to Bilbao for the night.
Drop off your rental car at Bilbao airport and board the plane for your local flight to Barcelona. Upon arrival, make your way to your hotel in Barcelona and check in.
Get to know the city via a half-day panoramic sightseeing tour, before heading over to visit the Sagrada Familia. Spend the afternoon at leisure.
After breakfast, take a private transfer to the Barcelona airport and board your flight home.

Pick up at the AVIS Office downtown Madrid. Pick-up on the weekend or on holidays must be done at the Madrid Airport.
Inclusions: Unlimited mileage; CDW (collision damage waiver) and TP (Vehicle theft coverage) insurance will partially pay for accident cost incurred, partial or total theft; Airport pick-up charge, Surcharge, within office hours (supplement charge for out-of-office hours at the airport); One-way surcharge; Local taxes and 21% VAT; Road assistance.

All drivers must be aged 21 years or over and have held a full clean driving licence for at least a year; Individual renters are liable for all penalties for offenses committed under traffic violations, including parking tickets, speeding fines during the period of hire or whilst awaiting collection.
