Start off at the impressive Vienna State Opera, home of the famous "Opera Ball" which takes place every year. Not far from the Opera, is the grand Hofburg Palace, the former winter residence of the imperial family. Next, you’ll see the monumental buildings of the Museum of Art History and the Museum of Natural History. Further sights on our tour are the neoclassical Parliament, the acclaimed Burgtheater and the striking City Hall. Continue on to Schönbrunn Palace where your guided tour starts at once, no need to wait for Austria’s most popular tourist attraction! The former imperial summer residence is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and attracts millions of people from all over the world every year. We visit the historic state rooms and see how the imperial family once lived. Afterwards you have time to take a stroll through the palace gardens or enjoy a cup of original Viennese coffee and a piece of delicious apple strudel.

Day 4

Vienna: Sightseeing

Spend the day at your own pace, and when it suits you, head over to the Sacher Eck and enjoy the original Sacher-Torte with coffee or tea included in your package. Then in the evening, enjoy a classical music concert on us!

Sacher Eck:

Located at the famous Hotel Sacher in Vienna, the new Sacher Eck recently expanded to fill over two floors, allowing even more space for visitors to enjoy tasty Sacher treats. Enjoy a piece of the original Sacher-Torte — Vienna’s most famous cake since 1832 — accompanied by a soothing cup of coffee or tea.

Mozart & Strauss Concert:

In the evening, enjoy a concert in a beautiful historical Viennese palace! The chamber ensemble of the Vienna Residence Orchestra, with 8-12 musicians, plays the Baroque Palais Auersperg. The concert features the world-famous music of W. A. Mozart and Johann Strauss. Renowned opera singers and a classical ballet duo will enchant you in the Rosenkavalier Hall. Concerts are available at 6:30 p.m. or 8:15 p.m. and consist of two parts: The first focuses on the works of W. A. Mozart. Enjoy the most beautiful melodies of this world-famous composer from Salzburg, such as the Figaro Overture, popular chamber music works such as Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and the most famous arias from Mozart’s operas. The second part is dedicated to the Johann Strauss dynasty. Swinging waltzes and polkas, as well as the world-famous Blue Danube waltz and the traditional Radetzky March form the highlight of our concerts.

Vienna – Salzburg (approx. 249 km

Discover the city through a sightseeing city tour, that also includes entrance to Mozart’s Residence.

Relive the making of the Sound of Music movie in and around Salzburg. This tour, which has been Salzburg’s most popular tour since 1967, is a combination of both historical Salzburg and the breathtaking Lakes and Mountains region. You’ll get to see many film locations and share not only background stories of the movie, but also the history and culture of the region. Find out whether the hills of Salzburg truly are alive with the ‘Sound of Music’ as you listen to the original movie Soundtrack along the way. Stops include:

  • Mirabell Gardens: Shown in many scenes including where Maria and the children sang ‘Do-Re-Mi’. 
  • The Gazebo: Where Rolf and Liesl sang ‘Sixteen Going on Seventeen’ and Maria and the Baron sang ‘Something Good’. 
  • Palace of Leopoldskron: This historical palace and its ground provided many filming locations including the lake where the boating scene took place. 
  • Nonnberg Abbey: This historical abbey was used both in the movie and the true story. In real life Maria and the Baron where married here in 1927.
  • St. Gilgen/Lake Wolfgang: This picturesque area was featured in the opening sequence of the movie. The village of St. Gilgen is situated directly across from the famous Schafberg mountain. 
  • Church of Mondsee: The Sound of Music Wedding Church. This historical church of Mondsee was the location of the movie wedding between Maria and the Baron.
