At the centre of Germany lies its big-business metropolis—Frankfurt. A city that compels and contradicts, it’s cleverly nicknamed Mainhattan for the sparkling skyscrapers of its financial core and the river Main snaking through it. The half-timbered edifices, rustic city hall, and 13th-century church of the medieval old town bring out its traditional side, best enjoyed with a glass of apfelwein.
