What to bring back
The city’s beloved apfelwein (apple wine) or any related products (jellies, soaps, etc.), a bembel (pitcher for apfelwein), traditional Frankfurt mustard and grüne sauce seed packets to make your own at home.
What to eat
The original Frankfurter würstchen (Frankfurt sausage), grüne sauce (a creamy 7-herb sauce served as a side with boiled potatoes and eggs), Frankfurter rippchen (cured pork cutlets), Frankfurter kranz (a ring-shaped buttercream cake), Frankfurter brenten (traditional marzipan cookies) and handkäse cheese.
Fun fact
Frankfurt isn’t only home to the famous würstchen and two of Europe’s tallest buildings (Commerzbank Tower and MesseTurm), it’s also the birthplace of Germany’s most famous writer, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Pay homage to the man with pit stops at the Goethe statue, the Goethe House and Museum, and even, the Goethe University.
