Tenerife

Tenerife is the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands and its year-round sun-soaked climate sits just off the northwest coast of Africa. Dramatic volcanic landscapes, like Spain’s highest peak: Mount Teide, contrast with the island’s golden beaches, lush forests, welcoming villages and lively resorts. Whether you’re planning an outdoor escape, looking for a beachfront hotel, or simply visiting somewhere new, Tenerife always delivers.

Visit Tenerife: get started

Exploring the island can be tough, so make sure you read this Tenerife travel guide! No visit to the Canary Islands is complete without a trip to Teide National Park to see Spain’s highest peak. The Los Gigantes Cliffs are another great choice for boat tours or dolphin watching excursions. For beach lovers, Playa de las Teresitas offers golden sands lined with palm trees just outside Santa Cruz. One of Tenerife’s most unique experiences can be found at Garachico Natural Pools, where you can swim in volcanic rock pools. When to visit

The best time to visit Tenerife is genuinely all-year round, thanks to its exceptionally mild Atlantic climate. The summer months are warmest, but you’ll find sunny weather even in January.

What to bring back

Canarian aloe vera products, tajinaste honey, fine wines from Tacoronte-Acentejo, Malvasia (sweet wine), traditional Guanche ceramics, hand-woven baskets or fabrics, volcanic lava jewelry, local coffee and a timple (small five-string instrument).

What to eat

Potaje de berros (watercress soup), carne de cabra (goat, found on most menus), parrotfish and cazuela de pescado (fish casserole distinct from paella). For something sweet, look for fangollo (like a millet-based rice pudding) and El Hierro quesadillas (flower-shaped cheesecakes).

Fun fact

Tenerife’s flag bears a striking similarity to that of Scotland’s, so make sure you get the colour right when you look for stickers to put on your suitcase.
