From the Sky Tower’s breathtaking views to the serene beauty of Waiheke Island, Auckland offers a perfect blend of urban sophistication and natural wonders. Next, we travel to Rotorua, a land of geothermal marvels and rich Maori culture, where you will visit the Hobbiton Movie Set, stepping into the magical world of Middle-earth. The itinerary also offers plenty of free time for you to relax or explore on your own, making your trip as flexible and enjoyable as possible.

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Auckland

Upon arrival In Auckland, you will be met and chauffeured to your hotel for check-in.

Rest up with an opportunity to explore around your hotel area.

Day 2

Auckland Exploration

After breakfast, head to the waterfront suburb of Mission Bay, about 5 km east of central Auckland and drive along the scenic Tamaki Drive, enjoying unobstructed views of Rangitoto Island.

Visit MJ Savage Memorial Park, also known as Bastion Point, offering stunning views of the Harbour Bridge, Waitemata Harbour, and the Auckland City skyline. There is also a stop at Achilles Point to capture fantastic photos with Rangitoto Island as your backdrop. Rangitoto is the largest and most recent volcano in the Hauraki Gulf.

The journey continues to One Tree Hill, or Maungakiekie, a volcanic summit in Auckland standing at 182 meters (597 feet). It’s the second-largest intact volcanic field in the city. You’ll enjoy 360-degree views of Auckland and learn about the mount's rich history. Next stop will be at Mount Eden Summit, one of the most prominent volcanic cones remaining in the Auckland region, to take in amazing views over the Hauraki Gulf.

To conclude the city tour of Auckland, you'll be dropped off at your hotel with plenty of time to continue exploring the city at your own pace. Visit a local café, or discover more of Auckland's vibrant neighbourhoods, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy.

Auckland

Start your free day with a leisurely breakfast at the hotel before heading out to explore the city's rich cultural offerings at your own leisure.

Consider visiting the Auckland Art Gallery or take a ferry ride to Waiheke Island, renowned as "the island of wine," for vineyard tours and tastings.

Day 4

Auckland to Rotorua

After breakfast, embark on an enchanting journey from Auckland to Rotorua, featuring the iconic Hobbiton Movie Set tour. An early morning departure from your hotel takes you from Auckland's bustling cityscape, over the picturesque Bombay Hills, and into the lush farmlands of the Waikato region.

Travel south with a knowledgeable guide who will share fascinating insights into the area's history and its connections to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films. Upon arriving at Shire's Rest, step into the magical world of Middle-earth with a tour of the largest 'green set' in the world. Wander through the Shire, marveling at 44 hobbit holes, the Mill, the double-arch bridge, and the famous Party Tree. Capture memorable photos at Bilbo Baggins' house, 'Bag End,' with its stunning views over the entire set and rolling hills beyond. Conclude the Hobbiton experience with a visit to the charming Green Dragon Inn, to relax with a glass of ale, cider, or ginger beer.

At the end of the journey, check into your hotel.

Rotorua

After breakfast, it’s time to enjoy a free day of leisure in Rotorua! Start by exploring the city by discovering its iconic landmarks and vibrant atmosphere or enjoy a cultural experience with a visit to Te Puia to immerse yourself in the rich Maori heritage and marvel at the geothermal wonders.

Rotorua

Begin your free day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel at your own pace and perhaps consider a visit to the Waitomo Glowworm Caves, a remarkable natural attraction known for its captivating glowworm displays. Explore the impressive limestone formations and enjoy a peaceful boat ride through the caves, where you’ll be enchanted by the glowworms lighting up the dark ceilings.

Day 7

Rotorua to Auckland

After breakfast at the hotel, head back to Auckland by a private driver.

Check in at your accommodation and enjoy the day at leisure.
