This itinerary offers an exciting exploration of Northwest Costa Rica, blending beach, mountain, volcano and rainforest experiences for a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Upon arrival at Liberia Airport in Guanacaste province, your journey begins at the scenic Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. Following this, participants will visit Monteverde, renowned for its lush Cloud Forest, before heading to the Arenal Rainforest. The tour concludes at the famous Tamarindo Beach, where guests can unwind and explore the area at their leisure until their departure.

Itinerary

Day 1

Depart Canada/ Arrival in Liberia, Costa Rica

Arrive in Liberia, Costa Rica. You will collect your bags and go through customs and immigration. After leaving the arrivals hall, you will be met by your Tour Concierge who will assist you with your transfer to your hotel located near the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. Check into your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2

Rincon de la Vieja Volcano area

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel.  The day is yours to discover on your own. Explore volcanic landscapes, hot springs and waterfalls. The region is ideal for hiking and adventure activities.

Day 3

Rincon de la Vieja Volcano area

After enjoying your breakfast, you will get ready for an exciting day ahead. You will meet your guide and the transportation that will take you to a horseback riding tour. This experience in Costa Rica provides a distinctive and immersive opportunity to appreciate the country's stunning landscapes. The adventure includes a visit to a natural swimming pool, so be sure to bring your swimsuit.

After the tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel where you will enjoy the afternoon on your own.

Day 4

Rincon de la Vieja to Monteverde

After breakfast today, you will embark on a morning journey to Monteverde, a region renowned for its expansive rainforests, cloud forests and remarkable biodiversity. This area is one of the planet's most unique habitats, showcasing an incredible array of flora and fauna. Positioned on the continental divide between the Caribbean and Pacific coasts, the cloud forests create a distinct microclimate that supports a multitude of species. As you travel, you will be treated to stunning landscapes and pass through charming local towns, enriching your experience of this beautiful country. Check into your hotel in the afternoon and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 5

Monteverde

After breakfast today, your guide will meet you for a transfer to the Monteverde Cloud Forest, a vibrant and misty ecosystem. Renowned for its canopy tours, hanging bridges and exceptional birdwatching opportunities, this area is particularly famous for sightings of the resplendent quetzal.

After your tour of the cloud forest, you will be brought back to the hotel and enjoy the rest of the day on your own.

  • Tree Tram & SkyWalk:

    Experience the breathtaking beauty of the Monteverde region by ascending to the Continental Divide via the Sky Tram, which spans an impressive 800 metres. This aerial journey culminates at an observation station featuring viewpoints on both sides, offering stunning vistas of the North Slope, the Golfo de Nicoya, and the iconic Arenal Volcano alongside the picturesque Lake Arenal. Following this, embark on a high-altitude trek through the Monteverde Reserve, where you can traverse six suspension bridges that soar above the forest canopy, some extending up to 300 metres. Accompanied by knowledgeable guides, you will gain valuable insights into the unique mountainous landscape of Monteverde, enhancing your appreciation of its natural wonders.

Day 6

Monteverde to Arenal

Enjoy your breakfast and then prepare to travel to La Fortuna, home to the magnificent Arenal Volcano, a true natural wonder renowned for its grandeur. While there are no current lava eruptions, visitors can still witness smoke and ash emanating from the volcano's summit. The Arenal Volcano region is a stunning destination, celebrated for its picturesque landscapes, soothing hot springs, and the expansive Lake Arenal. During your journey to this remarkable area, you will pass by lush agricultural fields, vibrant ornamental plant nurseries, and thriving cattle farms. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy the rest of the day exploring on your own.

Day 7

Arenal

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel today before meeting your guide for the day’s adventure.  Today you will experience the majestic beauty of the Arenal Volcano and the surrounding area on a combination tour. Once your tour is complete and you return to the hotel, you will have the remaining day to yourself to enjoy.

  • Combo 2 in 1: Hike El Silencio, waterfall with lunch:

    The Arenal Volcano stands out as a primary attraction, making it the perfect starting point for your visit. Guests take part in a 3.5 km hike along trails formed by solidified volcanic lava and lush primary forest, culminating at the El Silencio Viewpoint, where they can safely observe the volcano up close. The journey then proceeds to the Río Fortuna Waterfall, renowned for its breathtaking 70-metre drop. Here, visitors can either take a refreshing swim or capture the stunning scenery through photographs. Following this adventure, a lunch is provided at a nearby restaurant in La Fortuna, offering an à la carte menu with a selection of at least five meal options.

Day 8

Arenal to Tamarindo

After breakfast you will check out of the hotel in Arenal, then meet your transfer for the journey to the Tamarindo area. This region is rich in native flora and fauna, including the remarkable Guanacaste trees, as well as a variety of monkeys, coatis, and birds found on a private farm. Tamarindo is a favoured destination for tourists, boasting modern amenities such as cafes, diverse restaurants, bars, shops, and art galleries, making it a vibrant hub for visitors. 

Upon arrival in Tamarindo, you will check into your hotel, then have the remainder of the day at leisure.

Days 9-10

Tamarindo

The next two days are yours to explore on your own. In Tamarindo you can explore trails through the tropical dry forest, offering stunning panoramic views of the coastline, or stay at the hotel and relax while sipping drinks at the pool.

Day 11

Tamarindo to Liberia International Airport / Departure to Canada

This morning you will enjoy your final breakfast at the hotel before checking out of the hotel.  You will take the transfer back to the Liberia International Airport for check-in and catch your flight back home to Canada.
