When to visit
We recommend going during the off-season, from December to February or from June to August, when there are fewer crowds, and the weather is cooler. The peak season is from March to May and September to November.
What to bring back
You’re most likely to find the best Japanese souvenirs in various shopping districts around the country, and top items of interest include traditional folk toys, kimonos, Japanese whiskey, lucky charms (omamori) and pop culture mementos. For ramen snacks and sweets, visit a convenience store or konbini.
What to eat
If you’re planning on visiting Japan, expect to eat a lot. Sushi, ramen noodles, tempura and sashimi are some of the most popular Japanese dishes out there, but we recommend tasting other traditional foods like crescent-shaped Gyoza dumplings, fried Karaage chicken, and, of course, a bowl of Miso soup.

Not only is Japan one of the oldest countries in the world; it is also home to the world's oldest company! With over 1440 years under its belt, the construction company Kongō Gumi was established in in the year 578 A.D.
