From June to September, enjoy ideal conditions for exploring alpine landscapes, while from December to March, snow-covered mountains delight winter sports enthusiasts.
What to bring back
Swiss cuckoo clocks, Swiss chocolate (Toblerone, anybody?), a decorative cow bell (the sound of the Alps) and stylish ski gear.
What to eat
Lots of cheese (Vacherin, Appenzeller, Sbrinz, Emmentaler, etc.), chocolate, fondue and dishes influenced by the country’s neighbours (France, Italy and Germany).
Fun fact
The sounds of Switzerland are legendary, defined by romantic mountain folk music composed of accordion tunes, a strange wooden instrument called the alphorn (kind of like a Swiss didgeridoo) and, of course, yodelling. The unique singing style started as a way for shepherds to summon their herds and to call out to neighbouring villages.
