What to eat
Vada pav, a deep-fried potato patty in a bun, is one of Mumbai’s most iconic street foods. Bombay duck – actually a type of fish – is commonly served in spicy curries, and modak is a sweet dumpling stuffed in coconut and jaggery. Butter chicken is said to have been invented in Old Delhi, and parathas (stuffed flatbreads) are a common street food.
What to bring back
Fresh spices like turmeric, chili powders and saffron are a must-have from India. Incense and perfumes are popular souvenirs, as well as fine teas like Darjeeling or Assam.

Mumbai is home to the world’s largest open-air laundromat: Dhobi Ghat, which employs over 7,000 people to wash over 100,000 items of clothing each day. New Delhi, despite being the capital of an ancient country like India, is a young city inaugurated in 1931 after its foundation was laid in 1911. It was designed by British architects Edwin Lutyens and Herbert Baker.
