DESTINATION FACTS

WHAT TO EAT

Breakfast tacos (that’s right), fried chicken (from Frenchy’s!), BBQ meats, crawfish, kolaches (stuffed Czech pastries popular in Texas) and internationally influenced cuisine (Tex-Mex, Vietnamese or Louisiana Creole dishes from the neighbouring state).

WHAT TO BRING BACK

Western wear like cowboy boots or hats from Cavender’s, quirky Texas-themed goods from Texas Treasures or Y’alls Texas Store (a state-shaped waffle maker? Texan sauces?), and NASA or space-related souvenirs from the Space Center Houston (get your very own astronaut boots!).

FUN FACT

“Houston…we have a problem” uttered by Tom Hanks in the 1995 film Apollo 13 was actually a misquote. What astronaut John Swigert actually said to signal an explosion aboard the spacecraft attempting to reach the moon was: “OK, Houston, we’ve had a problem here.” Find out what earned this Texan city the nickname of Space City over at the Space Center.
