Fun Fact

The Golden State is nicknamed so for two reasons: first, for the Gold Rush that started in 1848 and sparked the state’s development and second, for its state flower, the golden poppy, in bloom each spring. Some also attribute it to the golden sunsets that bless its gorgeous coast. Other nicknames that never stuck: the El Dorado State and The Grape State.
