Tenerife Long Stay Escape, North Coast
Overview
A long-stay vacation on Tenerife’s North Coast is ideal if you want a blend of lush scenery, cooler temperatures, and authentic island life rather than the busier resort atmosphere of the south. The north has a gentler rhythm and is known for its greenery, volcanic landscapes and cultural charm.
The climate is pleasantly mild year-round, a bit cooler and more humid than the south due to the trade winds. You’ll be surrounded by banana plantations, palm-filled valleys and views of the Atlantic’s deep blue waves crashing against rugged cliffs.
A long stay lets you settle into local life — shopping at markets in La Orotava, sipping coffee in small plazas and joining locals for tapas or “guachinches” (rustic, family-run eateries in the hills). You can explore hiking routes through the Anaga Rural Park or Teide National Park, visit local vineyards or just enjoy the sea and mountain views from your balcony.

Days 3-29
Tenerife, North Coast
Tenerife’s North Coast feels like a completely different island compared to the sunbaked south—lush, dramatic and much more tied to local Canarian life. If you’re exploring it, here’s how to get a rich, well-rounded experience.
Start with Puerto de la Cruz, the cultural heart of the north. It’s lively but not overbuilt, with black-sand beaches like Playa Jardín and the famous Lago Martiánez, designed by César Manrique. It’s a great base for walking, eating and soaking in the atmosphere.
Head inland just a bit and you’ll hit La Orotava, one of the most beautiful historic towns in the Canary Islands. Experience cobbled streets, wooden balconies and spots like Casa de los Balcones. It’s quieter than the coast and gives you a real sense of history.
Nature is a big draw here. The Anaga Rural Park in the northeast is a must—misty forests, sharp ridges and hiking trails that feel almost prehistoric. If you’re up for a short adventure, drive to Taganana for wild coastal views and fresh seafood.
For a more rugged seaside vibe, check out Garachico. It was rebuilt after a volcanic eruption and now features natural lava pools like El Caletón—great for a swim when the sea is calm.
If you like wine or food, the north is also Tenerife’s agricultural hub. The valley around La Orotava produces excellent local wines—look for small bodegas rather than big commercial tours.
