Fun FactThe country’s official name is the Hellenic Republic; the Greeks refer to their home as Hellas or Ellada. The name Greece comes from the Latin word used by the Romans, Graecia (Land of the Greeks), but some also associate it with famed local philosopher Aristotle who referred to the land as Graeci.
